A public debate on the topic "Progress Report: Challenges for the Social Dialogue in Kosovo" was held on November 12
The Friedrich Ebert Foundation and the ETUC representative in Kosovo organized a public debate titled "Progress Report: Challenges for the Social Dialogue in Kosovo". The debate was held at the EU Information and Cultural Centre in Pristina on 12 November 2014.
Present in the panel were Mr. Nenad Rasic, Acting Minister of Labour and Social Welfare (MLSW); Mr. Haxhi Arifi, President of BSPK; Ms. Lumnije Hashani, representative of KCC; Mr. Agim Shahini, Chairman of AKB; while representatives of other trade unions such as that of the energy sector, the education sector, the public administration, and police, as well as officials of the Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare, civil society and international organizations were present among the public.
The discussion was moderated by Mr. Berat Buzhala. Trade Unionists raised issues related to their representation in the Social Economic Council (SEC). The Acting Minister of Labour and Social Welfare and the President of BSPK were called upon for the favoring that MLSW has shown towards BSPK. On the other hand, the Minister and three other panelists (all members of SEC) defended the work done in the last four years in SEC in the social dialogue process, as well as in addressing challenges in matters of employment.
However, in recent Progress Report it is stated that SEC membership criteria, capacities and quality of social dialogue require improvement.
